Moon Taxi
Daybreaker
BMG-Vagrant/BMG Recorded Music

Recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, Daybreaker was produced by Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse, Tom Waits, James Bay) and is comprised of eleven tracks that showcase exactly why Moon Taxi have become known as THE live band to see. For the first time since inception, all five members were together in the studio, performing and rehearsing as a band rather than self-producing bits and pieces at home. The result is 9 years, 1,000 shows and a lot of living compressed into one amazing album.

Tori Amos
The Light Princess
Mercury Classics

The Light Princess is the next chapter in Tori Amos’ trailblazing career. A fairytale about grief, rebellion and love, The Light Princess is a one-of-a-kind musical that has been embraced by audiences and critics alike. With music and lyrics by Amos and book and lyrics by Samuel Adamson and suggested by a story by George MacDonald, Amos weaves her delicately crafted music throughout the narrative, with Adamson poignantly telling the story of a young woman facing her fears. This anticipated cast recording of the Royal National Theatre Company also features exclusive bonus tracks sung by Tori herself.

Rufus Wainwright
Prima Donna
Deutsche Grammophon

Rufus Wainwright has always had a deep-rooted passion for opera, so he wrote one of his very own, Prima Donna, in 2009. Prima Donna centers on a day in the life of an ageing opera singer, who is anxiously preparing for her comeback in 1970’s Paris. Once a soprano with a powerhouse voice and a reputation to match, she's been discarded disdained by critics and forgotten by audiences. But the diva is determined to prove her doubters wrong: all she asks is a chance to reprise the role that made her reputation all those years ago. This recording features both Prima Donna’s cast and the BBC Orchestra, conducted by Jayce Ogren.
Moonsville Collective
Heavy Howl
Rock Ridge Music

With influences that include Levon Helm, Bob Dylan, John Fogerty and Hank Williams Sr., Moonsville Collective cover much ground on Heavy Howl. "Cow and the Cream" roots itself in gospel music, "Big Jimmy" twangs like a country song, “Rollin' in Paradise" flirts with jam-band music, and "Blue Money Grove" sinks its teeth into a swampy, Louisiana-worthy groove. Together, those styles form the borders of Heavy Howl's sound, with Moonsville Collective filling the rest of the songs with everything from Appalachian folk to southern rhythm & blues.

Mother Falcon
Good Luck Have Fun
Universal Music Classics

Good Luck Have Fun doubles down on both sides of Austin-based indie orchestra, Mother Falcon.  Half of the album is comprised of experimental instrumental soundscapes composed as the score to an upcoming documentary about competitive gaming. Inspired by Bowie’s Low, 60s improv iconoclasts AAM, and psychedelic drone, the album’s instrumental pieces ebb and flow in tension between unresolved crescendos and throbbing, jagged minimalism.  Conversely, the rest of the album may be Mother Falcon’s most accessible music ever, with a stronger emphasis on rhythm, concise arrangements that move the vocals to the fore, and a wealth of hooks, upon hooks, upon hooks.
Tigran Hamasyan
Luys i Luso
ECM Records

Pianist Tigran Hamasyan’s Luys I Luso is an extraordinary exploration of Armenian sacred music. Hamasyan has selected hymns and sharakans (Armenia’s liturgical songs) as well as chants by Grigor Narekatsi, Nerses Shnorhali, Mesrop Mashtots, Mkhitar Ayrivanetsi, Grigor Pahlavuni, Komitas, and Makar Yekmalyan and arranged this selection for voices and piano. This is music of the 5th to 19th centuries, finding new and dramatic expression through Hamasyan’s improvisational imagination and the committed performances of Armenia’s leading choir.

Sara Bareilles
What's Inside: Songs From Waitress
Epic

She’s not gonna write you a love song… But how about a musical for working girls? What's Inside: Songs From Waitress, features songs from the upcoming Broadway musical Waitress, for which Sara Bareilles wrote both music and lyrics. The musical, opening at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre in April 2016, had a recent run at The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) in Cambridge, MA. And, yes, it’s way more charming and realistic than 2 Broke Girls.

American Pilgrimage
Various Artists
Universal Music Classics

Sanjay Chitale made it his mission to help Sandeep Chowta, close friend and prolific Bollywood music director, meet his American jazz idols. Sandeep’s dream soon turned into an artistic pilgrimage for the two Indian musicians. The duo traveled across the US for two years, living and making music with a host of jazz legends, including Andy LaVerne and John Scofield. The collaboration yielded American Pilgrimage, an album of Indian melody and jazz improvisation a cross-cultural intersection seldom heard in the jazz world.

Julia Wolfe and Bang On A Can All-Stars
Anthracite Fields
Cantaloupe

Haunting, poignant and relentlessly physical, Julia Wolfe: Anthracite Fields is a lovingly detailed oratorio about turn-of-the-20th-century Pennsylvania coal miners, and a fitting recipient of the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Music. Featuring the always adventurous Bang on a Can All-Stars and the renowned Choir of Trinity Wall Street, Anthracite Fields merges diverse musical styles with classical themes from the deep, ambient sweep of the opening movement “Foundation” (with the All-Stars Mark Stewart wrenching waves of keening sound from his electric guitar) to the high-energy rock mood of “Breaker Boys.”
Vienna Boys Choir
Merry Christmas from Vienna
Universal Music Classics

Merry Christmas from Vienna features 18 Christmas songs by the children's choir that represents one of Austria's major cultural exports - as they embark on a musical journey through the centuries. Several pieces from the repertoire traditionally sung on Christmas Eve, such as “Frohliche Weihnacht Uberall” or “Leise Rieselt der Schnee” by the German pastor Eduard Ebel, form the recording's core. Other surprises include a stirring rendition of John and Yoko’s “Happy Christmas (War is Over).”

The Mantles
All Odds End
Slumberland Records

What makes the Mantles the Mantles? Maybe it's the idiosyncratic motion and energy of Michael Olivares' vocals, the way they alternately stroll and hop assuredly over the music. Or maybe it's the band's sound itself, familiar and classic yet increasingly distinctive, and growing—with acoustic texture; keyboard hooks and licks; and resonant and representative drumbeats—to its deepest, warmest, fullest, and most colorful on their third album, All Odds End, a record that is quintessentially Mantles from the sheer sonic splendor and elation—and biting words—of the album-opening "Island" on through to the final harmony of "Stay."
A Tribe Called Quest
People's Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm
(25th Anniversary Edition)
Legacy

People's Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm made its debut in 1990 and came at a crucial time for hip-hop. The Queens-raised childhood friends A Tribe Called Quest took the traditional hip-hop formula and threw it out the window. Like their contemporaries in De La Soul and the Jungle Brothers, their lyrical and musical influences were unlike any hip-hop group on the scene. This 25th anniversary edition was remastered from the original tapes by Grammy-Award winning engineer Bob Power, and re-released with exclusive new remixes by a few of today's biggest hip-hop artists.

Steve Forbert
Compromised
Rock Ridge Music

The songwriter’s songwriter is one who adheres to an unwavering standard of excellence. His work is honed, sculpted, shaped, and then reshaped until it feels right to share with the world. These are just a few of the guiding principles Steve Forbert followed while composing the 11 original songs on his new album, Compromised. Compromised is anything but what its title suggests. From the rambling piano and horn-driven swing of “Big Comeuppance” to the seductive twang of “Devil (Here She Comes Now)” to the Altamont romanticizing of “Welcome the Rolling Stones,” Forbert has followed his muse to the hilt.
John Renbourn
The Attic Tapes
Riverboat

John Renbourn has long been regarded as one of the world’s greatest contemporary acoustic guitarists. Lovingly remastered from a series of long lost tapes dating back to the early 1960s, The Attic Tapes is a vintage collection of previously unreleased recordings and early works. The 20 tracks include many true classics, all brilliantly performed and with particular care taken over the sound quality despite the rudimentary sources. The Attic Tapes represents in John’s own words, “what was happening to me at the time and a reflection of the general scene.”

Green Day
Heart Like a Hand Grenade
Reprise

Stroll down that boulevard of broken dreams, be awoken post-September, and crank all the American idiocy your ears can handle… More than a decade after the release of American Idiot, Green Day presents their explosive rock doc time capsule Heart Like a Hand Grenade. “We can’t believe this was shot over a decade ago. Little did we know that this was only the beginning of the adventure this record would go on to be,” says Billie Joe Armstrong. “We are stoked for our fans to see this footage for the first time and watch us try and figure it all out.”

Denai Moore
Elsewhere
Because Music

Elsewhere will undoubtedly surprise the earlybirds that had singer / songwriter Denai Moore pigeonholed from her early EPs. Yes, soul, folk, and indie are genres that Denai winds through, and indeed, if you take the songs back to their skeleton-frame, it's still very much about her startling, vulnerable voice, but there is a sparseness and atmosphere on the LP that recalls something deeper and decidedly more left of center. These songs at their rawest in subject matter are united by heartbreak, testing times, and impending opportunity, all written and performed by a young woman with the world at her feet and her expectations looking up to the stars.

Ty Dolla $ign

Kelly, Wiz Khalifa, Brandy, Babyface, Jagged Edge, Fetty Wap, E-40, YG, Rae Sremmurd, and Sevyn Streeter. Together Pangea
The Phage EP
Burger Records

Together Pangea are the perfect Burger Records band, mixing 60’s garage jitters with plenty of Grunge fuzz and, of course, melodic hooks… But their latest EP, The Phage, has something their label-mates lack: 6 new songs produced by The Replacements’ Tommy Stinson! Slightly stoned but by no means slack, The Phage reveals together Together Pangea to be both confident and surprisingly committed, their audacious ambition already impossible to contain.

Dave Gahan And Soulsavers
Angels & Ghosts
Columbia

An evolution from their first collaboration, Angels & Ghosts proves to be a markedly stronger and more hard-hitting body of work from Depeche Mode frontman, David Gahan, and the gospel goths of Soulsavers. Angels & Ghosts mixes dark, brooding sounds, elements inspired by gospel and blues, and the stark beauty that has become a signature of Dave and Soulsavers collision of worlds. Gahan sounds as powerful as ever and, as such, Angels & Ghosts rivals anything in his stellar oeuvre.
Ben Monder
Amorphae
ECM Records

Guitarist Ben Monder first recorded for ECM as a member of the Paul Motian Band on Garden of Eden in 2004, and Amorphae was originally conceived as a series of duets for Ben and Paul. A first exploratory duo session was recorded in 2010. After Motian’s death the following year it was decided to expand and complete the project with another highly influential and innovative drummer, Andrew Cyrille, adding also Pete Rende on synthesizer on two pieces. So here we hear Monder solo, in duo with Motian, in duo with Cyrille, and in trio with Cyrille and Rende. This range of expressive options casts light upon Monder’s musical concepts and their adaptability.

Boots
Aquaria
Columbia

On the heels of the surprise release of FKA twigs' M3LL15X EP, BOOTS – the sole producer behind four of the EP's five tracks – is now announcing the release of his debut album, Aquaria. Featuring co-production from El-P (Run The Jewels) and Carla Azar (Autolux), Aquaria is set somewhere in a twilight realm of the Information Era as BOOTS blends masterful musical styles and gritty vocals with a futuristic approach at creating a boundary-crushing defiance to the established musical hivemind.
